Sharyn Simpson
Sharyn began her involvement with Brown Hill Netball Club as a player – then having some time away when she suffered a serious knee injury.
In 2010 she returned to the club as a coach – appearing in many club team photos, often in teams where her daughter Abbey wasn’t a player. In some years there are photos where she appears as a coach in more than one team in the season.
In 2012 Sharyn was named Club Person of the Year, with club records citing her coaching, assisting with numerous administrative duties and umpiring when needed, as reasons for her award that year.
In 2013 Sharyn joined the Committee and in 2018 took on the role of Treasurer – which she continued to do until 2023.
As Treasurer, Sharyn also took on other jobs – team selections, finding fill ins when teams were short (often at short notice) and producing regular club newsletters.
A major achievement for Sharyn was the overseeing the introduction of the Netball Victoria – Netball Connect platform. The platform was designed to reduce the paperwork involved with player registrations, team lists and team draws however, as with all new changes in technology, there were many challenges and hiccups in the system. Sharyn implemented this platform at a time when few people had any idea how to use the system and then went on to teach others within the club.
The new Committee members greatly appreciate Sharyn’s openness, availability and willingness to help out and answer many, many questions.
The Committee voted unanimously that Sharyn was an individual, truly deserving of a Life Membership of the Brown Hill Netball Club.
